The Stranglers - Preview: 15th March 2018, Bristol O2 Academy

Comprised of experienced musicians, The Stranglers formed during the punk explosion of the mid seventies. Their first three albums; ‘Rattus Norvegicus’, ‘No More Heroes’ and ‘Black and White’ were all released within about a year between ‘77 and ‘78 and when The Ramones played their first tour of the UK, The Stranglers were the band to open for them. Being older than many of their punk peers and with musical and lyrical skill exceeding many of their contemporaries, The music press viewed them with suspicion, despite the success of singles such as ‘Peaches’ and ‘No More Heroes’ which are now regarded as punk classics.

Yet after more than 40 years, 23 top 40 singles and 17 top 40 albums; The Stranglers are on tour once again. Doubtlessly restoring the anarchic ethos of their youth to veteran punks while showcasing songs that younger fans may not have yet heard.

On the 15th March, The Bristol O2 academy see’s the band return to Bristol after last years incredible, double encore set. Then we were treated to the likes of ‘The Raven’, ‘Nice ‘n Sleazy’ and, of course, the ubiquitous ‘Golden Brown’.

Bristol will be the seventh date of the tour so you can expect to see these living legends take to the stage in perfect stride, confident of their set and sound. If last March is anything to go by it’s going to be a set crammed with hits. Including the incredible cover of Dionne Warwick’s ‘Walk on By’.

At the time of writing this there ARE still a small number of tickets available but the rest of the tour is selling out quickly. I’d recommend grabbing one while you can!
